You know what was the best part of the USMNT victory last night?
Getting to watch ESPN Deportes’ Futbol Picante and seeing the mild panic on their faces and denial in the voice of the Mexican pundits. It wasn’t a pretty victory but how often are USMNT victories over Mexico pretty? They are just victories where the defense doesn’t give up too much and superior goal keeping allows us to pull out the wins. Now is there a gap between mexico and the united states? Yes for sure, but I don’t think it’s that much of a gap as was being alluded to. Also this may be just a friendly but in a lot of ways it’s huge towards building up the swagger and confidence these young players need. And more importantly it breaks that mental block, that idea that the USMNT can’t win at the Azteca and may never do so. I don’t know i’m just fucking happy. There will be time later to dissect the game and all that happened but fuck is it nice to know it’s finally been done and I can only hope next match there during qualifying they do it again.

I didn’t find out about the result until just now, while my dad was driving us back from the mountains. I thought he was going to flip the car when my brother called to tell him the score.
